Our Outdoor Education program is introduced in 4th grade, and includes a science-focused overnight field trip. Outdoor Ed continues with a history-aligned Gold Rush field trip and into 5th grade with more science and history aligned overnights. This tradition continues into Middle School where we kick off the year with a week away, as a school and staff, to build community and enhance our science curriculum. These overnights are a way to build connections with peers as well and also serve as a hands-on, experiential learning opportunity for our students.
Field trips play an important role for our program, and they offer a hands-on approach to learning that engages children's senses and sparks their curiosity. Our classes have visited the Marin County Courthouse to tour and listen in on a real court case, they have visited the Marine Mammal Center, heard Shakespeare in San Francisco, dissected squid at the Marin Headlands…and of course, kindergarten visits the pumpkin patch every year.
